In the education system, most interesting and at the same time the most troublesome task is to keep interest of students in the study. Teacher is expecting to keep the interest of students in the classroom learning otherwise the class gets disturbed and performance of the class or student for the year are going to be of no use. Teacher or coach must teach the students such that they listen not hear the words spoken. When listening and engagement process occurs, student improves himself. There are some points to form students listen spoken words and engage in classroom learning:

Make content with lives:

Whatever be the subject to teach, use the content, which helps students to relate with them. Bring them aware to cheats happening due to non-awareness of mathematical equations. Bring attention to cultures and history of arts, successful life from grammar and so on. The teacher play as a storyteller where story relates to tutor’s life examples and also refers lesson. Stories are the simplest way to engage students with the teacher within the given time interval.

Take interest and recruit interest:

Lack of interest in teaching; make students bored with particular tutor’s lessons. It, in turn, makes no interest of student in particular subject. The teacher needs take interest in teaching that will mechanically generate interest of students in that particular teacher and subject. Enjoying one’s job is the best thing to make others enjoy one’s company. Give a smile and acquire smiles back. Make stressful class filled up with some light-weight fun. The more tutor takes part in communication, the more likely students will be participating in the classroom.

Motivate students:

Taking interest in students, stimulate student’s engagement in learning. Permit students to browse the lesson in his favorite cartoon character. Compare cartoon channel with history channel and characters from historic people. Link the topic with interests of students. Teach moral and values through their favorite cartoon hero. Do similar play with problems, diagrams and calculations in math. Build student dare math-phobia.

Group study:

Divide the students into team for classroom discussions and solve problems along. It’ll facilitate them to do tasks in a team and appreciate one’s relevant work to solve the given problem. Group study makes students to interact, to perform better and motivates them to do better. Provide topics for discussion or problems with increasing mastery level, it will boost students’ information and analysis skills.

Home assignments and projects

Provide an assignment on a tutored topic, so the topic gets revised. Divide topic assignment between students, such that a unique problem is allotted to a student. It helps the coed to bring not-copied and unique solution. Give group projects to students and it is helpful in engaging students in collaborating learning.

Class response using information formats:

Involve class students to respond tutor’s queries. Use response cards, individual dry erase boards or chalk boards to instruct students to write their answer on them instead of getting answers from a single student. It’s an easy and effective way to involve the class. Use tools like images, words or letter stamps for practicing words, counting and sentence making. In math, provide simple tricks to calculate large digit numbers within seconds.

Teach self-regulation skills:

Develop self-regulation skills in students so they regulate themselves within or out of classroom space. For learning environment, give self check and awareness skills to manage one’s behavior and habits. These skills will facilitate them to succeed and work independently. Instruct students to monitor themselves to pay attention in class, listening to the teacher, keeping notebooks in bag once use and/or keep silence to keep up school premise rules in order. Teach students to check their performance results, where ever they haven’t secured marks. It will motivate and encourage student to perform higher for the next assessment.

Play time:

Games and sports provide strength to our mind and body functions. Teachers need engaging students in indoor and outdoor games or sports even for a shorter time period. Games give mental break and body work. They help in releasing mental stress, curiosity and develop risk taking and problem solving ability.

Cultivate imagination and innovation:

Make students to do the task of their own imagination. Genius comes out from self creation and broad minds. Offer students to take any topic and use their intelligent minds to foster creativity on it. Encourage students to participate in educational events, it gives students a platform to build confidence, start a cause and build leaders within them.

Learning trips:

We can have lessons from anywhere. Taking students to the learning trips, make them think out of the box. Historical monuments, geographical regions and science laboratories are some learning spots. These learning spots are knowledge trips with fun overloaded.

A teacher is relevant, authentic and valuable part of student’s life. The teacher builds the student to grasp, keep and apply knowledge gained from four-walled room in his own life. If students get engaged in learning then they will become a person with focus, sensible behavior, attitude, self-esteem and hard work. Building interest of students in learning isn’t left-handed work.
